Rental Car

Got clearance from the guy's insurance about getting a rental car today, so after work (Panera at lunch and then the cool inservice with Susan... aka Dr. Loretta Young) I went with mom to the rental place across from the hospital. They told me how much to spend per day... which was more than I expected, since I didn't realize I'd get a bigger "allowance" because of my "suv". Since there were no 4WD's on the lot, they gave me this..... in green.

I KID YOU NOT. Leather, sunroof... I felt like I was doing something illegal taking it off the lot!

What a good day for a Monday!

Anniversary, sailing, shopping, griping, updating...

#1 - Happy Anniversary, mom and dad, this past Friday! :)
#2 - Beautiful weather this weekend brought joy to my tired-of-winter soul! Hurray!
#3 - No real update on the Jeep yet. I got my estimate of repair... $4000+... and am waiting to hear from his insurance company's person on their estimate and what they are doing in terms of a rental car for me. More will follow... eventually.
#4 - Tomorrow is a half-day of school and half of inservice... but it will be a good one, for once! Susan from Sesame Street is coming and we all get signed copies of her new book! Yay!
#5 - got an email back from Matt, (the new set-up boy). He seems really nice - I think Christie did a good job! :)
#6 - Mom and Dad get to go on the inagaural NYC sailing of the Queen Mary 2 next month! And it's FREE... (long story short) because my brother and dad have the same name! It's just a Thursday pm - Saturday am thing, but how cool is that?! (well, good and bad, depending on which side of the dock you're on... it's the land side for me!)

My Poor Baby! Sadness!

Sad news. Yesterday my poor little Jeep was smacked from the front and behind as it took me safely home from work. Now it is taking a rejuvinating vacation... at the dealership. Here's the backstory:

Driving home from work yesterday I noticed a car in front of me driving really irradically... so I slowed down, hoping that it would leave me alone... but it didn't. Supposedly, this guy's rear left tire came off the car - he slammed in to me (at that point he had been in the lane to my right, but took a tight swerve into my car) and he ended up in the opposite lane of traffic... except for that tire, which ended up wedged under my car. Of course, the guy behind me slowed down, but still ran into my trunk. We called the police, of course (can you believe that the first time I dialed 911 it was busy?!?) and they came. We got the tire out from under my car and the Jeep was drivable, but not pretty. I'd already called home and both of my parents eventually made it to the accident, after getting stuck in all of its traffic on the way. We won't get the estimate from the dealership or the police report until tomorrow, so until then it is just a waiting game. I know that the repair estimate will be no less than $4-5,000 and probably about 2 weeks until I see my baby.
Luckily, on neither end am I at fault, so I am going to put my claim in to the front guy's insurance company. They'd better get me an allowance to rent a car... I need one to get to work! I am fine physically, other than a little sore, and so is everyone else from what I know, but the cars are all another story.
Part of me is so mad and another part is sad and another part is thankful that I am fine (it could have been a lot lot worse) and another part is sore, and another part.... I can't even think that much. I'm tired and achy and going to bed. More when I know what to write about. Can you believe this, though? Never even a fender-bender with my good 'ol Bing, and now with this less-than-a-year-old beauty, two dumb things in a week! At least the first was really nothing. (I did have a professional look at it and he said there was nothing at all.) But this time, I pulled up to the service entrance and the guy came out and said.... "oooooohhhh......" Then you know it's bad.

Snowy St. Patrick's Day

Snow, snow go away! Don't come back another day!

Normally, I like snow. I do. Especially since I got my Jeep. But yesterday it started snowing and got all messy on the roadways. On my way home, I got rear-ended by a Snapple salesman (no joke!) whose leased car is a mess... and needs to be turned in on April 01 for his lease. Luckily, the Jeep is fine, except for needing a new tire cover, which got ripped.

Well, fast-forward to today. Of course the kiddies were going crazy, between the snow and green bagels that they all devoured, so work was hectic. Then I went to an Irish place for dinner with my parents and some family friends. Not memorable. O well. Even though I am 25% Irish, I don't identify with it, so it's no big deal. I just want the spring to actually come and the flowers to grow and things to turn Green... not just celebrate the color in the middle of snow!

The busiest of all weekends

Wow... to even talk about this weekend I must break it into sections:

Friday: Took off from work for the Arts Day at a local school. The G&S people do a workshop for the 3-5 graders. It was a fun morning. Then Becky arrived... and made amazing time, I must add! We hung out, went to the preview for the auction to browse and register (#'s 12 and 14, woo hoo!). Chatted with a prop master and the auctioneer. Took notes. Then, it was off to Ikea to browse, buy, eat meatballs and ride on the fun flat carts in the warehouse. (I highly recommend it... the carts are tres fun!) After a quick stop at the Old Navy accross the road, we came home. A busy day!

Saturday: After some breakfast, we decided to wander in the local town a little... but it was deceptively windy and chilly, so that was short lived. Anyway, we picked up lunch at Ronnie's (some have seen it as the "Pie Shop" on Ed) and then off to Stuckeybowl for the auction. What a crazy, insane experience! Becky was much more bold in her bidding - I only bid on windows... but now I am the proud owner of one of Ed's house windows! Becky got a steal... this chair, from Ed's office, went for the same price as a $10 bet!! After the craziness there (we left after several hours, and it was ongoing still!) we returned home for dinner and then went out to do.... what else.... bowling! You can see Becky's photography skills of the day here.

Sunday: Well, after all of that tremendous fun, my dear smacky had to return home. I ended up at the Big Mall to run an errand and ended up spending the day... mom and dad joined me and we lunched at my favorite Stir Crazy and then ended up going to see The Passion of the Christ - an amazing movie. Horrible, amazing, necessary, beautiful, painful, unforgettable... really, words don't come close.

So you see, I probably had the busiest and most memorable weekend that I've had in a million years. (and the most complicated post I've attempted... loaded with links.) And now I hear it might snow tomorrow???

quick update

Ok. need to be quick because it is late and I can't be cranky for the kiddies tomorrow....

One: Oh, this is exciting, in a kitchy-dorky-but-I-don't-care kind of way.... This weekend I will actually be stepping into STUCKEYBOWL!!! Yes, it is true! Sadly, the show is cancelled (although NBC won't say that...) and there is an auction of all things "ED" on Saturday at the actual Stuckeybowl set. I will be there (and you, dear reader...readers? will have a full report!) And, to make it even better, my darling Smacky will take the trip down here and come, too! Oh, joy!

Two: It appears that people are taking it upon themselves to play "yente" on my behalf. In this vein, a dear friend of mine (who is more like an older sister) wants to set me up with the son of one of her patients... but only email first, if it pans out. Emailing, I think, is good. And there are no strange shadows of expectations here, which is v.good. Again, if there is anything to report, it will be found here. :)

'Tis all for now. Sleep is in order. Children and a cranky Miss President do not mix.... there is screaming and tears... usually mine.... :)
